Power Quality Disturbance Data Compression Using Wavelets Transform

Abstract---In this paper we present a wavelet compression technique for power quality disturbance data. Power quality transient data are compressed and stored for analysis and classification purposes. Original data can be reconstructed and then analyzed using wavelet transform. Different power quality disturbances including voltage sag, swell, sag with harmonic and swell with harmonics are used to test the performance of the proposed approach. The file size of the compressed data is only one-sixth to one-third that of the original data. Therefore, Data storage and transmitting costs are reduced significantly.
